WHY CHIROPRACTIC?
People who are suffering from chronic back or neck pain, chronic headaches, sciatica, bulging or herniated discs, or other conditions may feel as though there are no options to relieve their pain. Often, it is discovered that prescription medications and even surgery fail to provide relief. Unwanted side effects can occur with some conventional treatments for pain.
Chiropractic takes a different approach to treating ailments. This non-invasive, non-medicinal therapy has effectively helped millions of people regain comfort and mobility by simply helping the body function as it should. The philosophy is very simple. The body functions in response to commands from the brain, which travel through the nervous system. The nervous system spans from the brain, through the spinal column, and out into the body. By keeping the spine in alignment, nerves can deliver vital communication to the various muscles and organs.
Chiropractic medicine may focus on the spine, but this does not mean that your chiropractor can only treat neck and back pain. This area of medicine can improve the overall function and restore your health in a variety of ways.

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
We are excited that you have made it to this page. Part of delivering excellent care to our patients is to help them understand the power that lies within the field of medicine called chiropractic.
Even though more than 15 million Americans annually choose to work with a chiropractor for the non-invasive relief of back pain, neck pain, headache, sciatica, and other discomforts, many do not realize the capacity of chiropractic medicine to improve health and wellbeing.
The Association of Chiropractic Colleges describes chiropractic medicine in this way: “Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs and surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.”
THE WIDE RANGE OF CHIROPRACTIC CARE
Because chiropractors are often visited by individuals experiencing pain from an injury or wear and tear, and because chiropractors apply gentle force to bring the spine into alignment, it is a common belief that chiropractic care is intended for pain relief. Though there is some truth to this, there is much more to chiropractic care!
The objective of chiropractic medicine is to aid in the natural functions of the body by preserving or restoring communication between the brain and the various muscles, nerves, and organs. In this way, chiropractic treatments truly are intended to optimize health.
Chiropractic medicine is based on extensive scientific research and discovery. As scientists and physicians learned more about the intricacies of the body, they pinpointed the nervous system as the “control panel” to the living cells within the body. Through the nervous system, the various functions of cells, organs, and tissues are maintained. The nervous system only begins in the brain. From here, it spans downward as the spinal cord and nerve roots. This vital system is encased within the spinal column.
Due to the close relationship between the spinal column and the nervous system, structural and biomechanical problems within the bones and tissues of the spine can lead to irritation. Because of tissue injury or pressure on nerves, inflammatory biochemicals are released into the body. This irritation, coupled with the initial pressure on nerves, can lead to dysfunction within the tissues, organs, and cells linked to the affected nerve.
Effects of a compromised nervous system are many, since the nervous system controls the whole body. Your experienced chiropractor has been educated and trained to understand the various potential effects, and to treat them accordingly.
What chiropractors look for are, technically subluxations. A subluxation is a structural change within one or more vertebrae that compromises the integrity of neural communication, or the transmissions from the brain to the body. Subluxations block messages, and therefore negatively affect the body’s ability to remain optimally healthy.
Chiropractors are trained in a number of highly refined techniques to recognize and treat subluxations, also called misalignment. Using gentle force, your chiropractor can move misaligned vertebrae into their proper position, restoring nervous system function. In addition to providing spinal adjustments, however, chiropractors may also incorporate physical therapies such as massage and exercise, and counseling on lifestyle modification and nutrition to help patients achieve optimal health.
A DIFFERENT APPROACH
Chiropractic medicine is set apart from conventional medicine in that symptoms are only important to the diagnosis of an underlying problem. Your chiropractor does not seek to treat pain or other symptoms with medication or surgery, but instead designs treatment that aids in the body’s own natural abilities to operate functionally.
We believe that our patients gain long-term benefits through this approach, and invite you to experience the many advantages of chiropractic medicine by calling our office for your consultation.
