New patient information

Your First Visit

Your first appointment is designed to understand the problem, complete a focused examination, explain the findings, and begin treatment during the same visit when clinically appropriate.

What happens

A Focused, Straightforward First Appointment

The visit is structured around your symptoms, functional limitations, examination findings, and what you need to return to doing.

Discuss Your Symptoms and Goals

Review what happened, what activities are limited, previous treatment, relevant health history, and what you want to regain.

Complete a Focused Examination

The examination may assess movement, strength, sensation, reflexes, orthopedic findings, neurologic status, and relevant functional tasks.

Explain Findings and Begin Treatment

Dr. Besser explains the working diagnosis and begins appropriate treatment during the same visit when there is no clinical reason to delay.

Treatment and next steps

Treatment Is Based on the Examination

Depending on the condition and findings, the visit may include chiropractic care, soft-tissue treatment, corrective exercise, activity guidance, or a combination.

If imaging, medical evaluation, emergency care, or another specialist is more appropriate, the reason and next step are explained clearly.

Focused Care, Not an Automatic Wellness Schedule

  • Recommendations are based on the diagnosis, function, goals, and response.
  • Progress is reassessed through pain, movement, neurologic findings, and activity tolerance.
  • Visit frequency is reduced as improvement becomes stable.
  • Patients transition toward independent activity, self-management, or discharge.

Insurance and payment

Preparing Financial Information

The clinic works with many insurance plans. Coverage, deductibles, copayments, referral requirements, and visit limits vary by plan.

Bring your current insurance card and photo identification. The office can help verify benefits, but the insurer determines final coverage and payment responsibility.

Home guidance

Before You Leave

You may receive one or two specific home recommendations, such as walking, ice or heat, a mobility exercise, a strengthening exercise, or temporary activity modification.

The goal is to give you a manageable next step—not an overwhelming list of exercises.

Frequently asked questions

Before Your Appointment

Will I be treated during the first visit?

When the history and examination show that treatment is appropriate and safe, treatment can begin during the same visit. Some conditions require imaging, medical evaluation, or another type of care first.

Will X-rays be taken?

Imaging is not automatic. It is considered when trauma, neurologic findings, red flags, or another clinical concern makes the result likely to affect management.

How many visits will I need?

Recommendations depend on the condition, severity, functional loss, goals, and response. Care is reassessed rather than assuming an indefinite schedule.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move. Bring shorts or athletic clothing when that would make examination of the involved area easier.
